The Naughtons have farmed at West End Farm since Andrew and Crystal took on the tenancy from The Crown Estate in 1970. Three generations are now involved in the farm.
Our herd of sows live outdoors on the chalk downland in the middle of the farm. The piglets live with their mums outside until they are weaned, then they are brought into roomy straw-filled barns
The eggs we sell on the farm are laid by our flock of free-range hens that live in the paddocks behind the line of trees across the paddocks from the shop. Some customers remember our free range eggs we sold in the 80’s and 90’s
A flock of 100 ewes plus lambs are a small flock that graze the grassland dotted around the farm, much of which is important for wildlife.
The majority of the farm is used for growing crops including wheat, barley, oilseed rape, oats, rye and peas. These crops are milled on the farm to make food for the pigs,
In October 2022, we opened The Piggery Farm Shop in a small portable cabin to enable us to sell our produce and that of other local farms and suppliers directly to the community. The success of this small venture meant that we soon needed to expand, and a larger building was constructed.
You can now relax and enjoy a hot drink and a snack in the original cabin or sit outside at our picnic tables and enjoy the fresh air as you look out over our farm!
